Pre Exclusively On Sprint In 2009

If you were hoping that shortly after it launched in the US the Palm Pre would be made available on carriers besides Sprint you can officially stop hoping – it ain’t gonna happen. According to CNBC, Sprint has the Palm Pre exclusively in the United States for all of 2009 and possibly longer. The CNBC article cites “a person familiar with the matter” who “asked not to be named” but the info is probably legit.
The Pre is supposed to save Palm and revive Sprint but how does exclusivity play into the picture? Obviously, Sprint would want it exclusive as long as possible. But Palm wants as many devices out there as possible so why would they restrict themselves to only Sprint? It’d be interesting to sit in on that negotiation, don’t you think?

i am a verizon costumer. I like verizon and like palm products.I now own a blackberry only because verizon stop selling palm product. Why is palm restricting themselves with an exclusive contract.
