Palm Profile: Forced Customer Pre Training
| by PalmWebOS.org on April 27th, 2009 |
A self-proclaimed Sprint Insider and customer care exec has posted a HUGE list of questions and answers about the Palm Pre and WebOS, most of which were already known. But a few very interesting details were revealed that, if true, will prove to be quite interesting. My favorite new tidbit is the advent of “Palm Profiles” and a screenshot showing a quick fix for a sluggish Pre makes the whole thing seem PREtty authentic.
According to the leak, every single customer who purchase a Palm Pre will have to create a Palm Profile, complete a tutorial called “First Use Experience” and agree to Terms and Conditions before using their phone. Great idea. This will help answer simple questions that might otherwise clog up customer support phone lines or increase return rates for clueless Pre users who don’t know how to operate their device and get fed up. If you’re unwilling to go through the tutorial you can hit the road says the source:
If the customer does not complete these steps, the phone will not work. If the customer does not want to complete the step0.0.0s, he/she can return it to the place of purchase.
So don’t be such a lazy bum cry baby and do what they tell you! The other interesting knowledge dropped was a screen shot showing what to do when WebOS Applications are running slower than normal:
While the above document DOES seem authentic, it also says, “Applications writtern for earlier Palm smartphones are not compatible with your Pre phone,” which, given the recent excitement surrounding the Classic Application by MotionApps, seems inaccurate.
The article listens an absolute TON of information on the Palm Pre and Sprint so if you’re dying for nitty gritty Palm Pre details, you’ll likely enjoy checking out the souce article. Among other things, the author indicates that Sprint will NOT offer a tethering plan and the Pre does NOT support Sprint Music, Sprint PictureMail, or Sprint Digital Lounge.
So who is the author? Is this a legitimate Sprint employee who went undercover to protect themselves as stated in the about page? After looking at one of the most interesting and funny yet serious legal disclaimers I’ve ever seen on a website, I’m inclined to believe.

on his post at sprintgurus.com he says the pre is released with pink floyd’s wish you were here song and the trailer for the movie up. then he states “You can make your own assumptions from one of those, if you read between the lines”. i think he was hinting at the release date. the disney movie Up comes out May 29th. I’m thinking that they would release the phone a little before that date if they’re putting the trailer for it on the phone. that’s of course if this guy is legit. here’s the link to where he says what the video and music sample will be. here’s the link to where he says what the video and music sample will be http://sprintgurus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315
