Camping Out For The Palm Pre?
| by PalmWebOS.org on April 29th, 2009 |
When the hottest new devices launch, whether the iPhone or a gaming platform like Nintendo Wii, you can always find a crowd. Sometimes that crowd is in a long Black Friday-like line and sometimes people in that crowd have been camped out for well over 24 hours to ensure they get their mitts on whatever object they’re waiting for. Will you camp out for the Palm Pre?

If you weren’t planning on it, perhaps you should. Bloomberg is reporting that Palm will debut the Pre with only 375,000 units available for sale. There will likely be a sellout fairly quickly which will generate even further buzz and drive increased demand. Of course that is assuming the price is competitive at $199 or less… any more than that and the Palm Pre might get cozy on Sprint shelves across the country.

I won’t be camping out for it.
The only thing I ever camped out for was the first iPhone and that was one long, hot day!
Although I’m even more excited for the Pre than I was for the iPhone (and eager to switch), I don’t think I’ll camp out for anything ever again.
I have much better things to be doing with my day.

I have been waiting for the Pre since it was announced. I am obsessively searching the internet for news about the release and price. I have my name on a waiting list, first on the list at the local Sprint store.
If Palm manipulates the inventory to create a false shortage, and I cannot get one on day one, I will be DEFINITELY getting an i-phone.

Thankfully, there is an official Sprint store literally 10 steps from my apartment. I will be waking up at the butt-crack of dawn though to hold a place in line.

I will be waiting for the pre. I doubt the lines will be as long as i saw for the iPhone, but i will gladly wait up to 3 hours, because i’ll be damned if i have to wait an extra week to 1. get the Pre, and 2, to get rid of this hunk of junk windows os based Diamond touch.

Camp? No. Wake up at 5ish AM with a laptop to wait? Yes.
