Palm Touchstone Charger Costs $5 To Manufacture
| by PalmWebOS.org on June 7th, 2009 |
If you bought the Touchstone charger you likely laid down the $70 for the simple fact that it was a new, novel accessory that was simply put – neat. And anytime you’re dealing with the word “accessory”, manufacturers are probably enjoying the term “profit margin”. The Touchstone charger might be the supreme example.

The folks at iFixIt.com did a complete teardown of the Touchstone so you could see all the innards of the interesting little charger. Not long after, they tweeted it probably doesn’t cost more than $5 DOLLARS to make!
Are we being ripped off? No – seems more like some smart business people did demand forecasting at various price points and determined that $70 would yield the greatest profit. But I doubt the Touchstone will stay at $70 through the end of the year.
Will knowing it only costs $5 to manufacture influence your decision to purchase or not purchase the TouchStone Charger?

Since palm did not get so much profit in the past month – I would definitly buy the touch stone charger if I’d live on the american continent
If it was Apple, I would certainly not be so sympathetic…
