Is Your Palm Pre Scratched?
| by PalmWebOS.org on June 11th, 2009 |
Some people throw a screen protector and body armor on their new phones as soon as they buy them. Others love the bliss of pure, unprotected phone… you get the point. But sometimes whether or not to throw protection on your new gadget depends on how vulnerable it is to scratching. According to Geek.com, the Palm Pre loves to get scratches all over it without hardly any provoking.
According to the author, the Palm Pre seemed to have gotten Chris Browned although the iPhone and iPod touch hardly had any facial wounds after similar treatment. My suggestion? How about keeping your keys in a separate pocket fromyour Palm Pre. I’m not positive this is how the scratches occurred… but that is what it looks like to me.
If you don’t want to take this risk and would rather protect your phone now, hit up our Palm Pre Forum and ask others what their favorite screen protectors and cases are and go from there!

I’m anal about screen protectors. I’ve kept the one it came with one and will install a phantom skin this weekend

Totally!!
I’m a little depressed that I have some scratches, but am putting the invisibleSHIELD on it to keep more from appearing.

Yikes, that sucks. I love to show people how scratch-proof the iPhone is.
Try this on a Pre.
Take a regular door key, you know, one with sharp points.
Bang it hard into the glass.
Press hard and slide the key up &down a few times.
I’ve done this almost weekly – for two years.
No scratches.

@STu
Let me hold that Iphone for a demo of key scratching unless you have some type of screen armor I can guarantee I can scratch it one go! Probably crack it as well since you want me to bang the key against it

I’ve owned an iPhone for 2 years now – never a single scratch on the screen. It’s made of glass, so it’s very hard to scratch. The body which is aluminum and plastic has various scratches otherwise. I kept it in my pocket (even with keys) without a worry. Not so with the Pre.
The Pre’s screen is plastic – which makes it very prone to scratching. Even being extra, extra careful I somehow scored a very small scratch already (in under 2 weeks). I couldn’t imagine what it’ll look like in 2 years.
Get a screen protector day one if you want to keep it in good working order. (A small scratch on the screen can cause huge issues with the display – magnifying the pixels and creating rainbow like artifacts).

Would you dare do this with a Pre?
