Mobile version of Wikipedia goes live with Pre support
| by Shawn Brown on July 6th, 2009 |
Although we only currently only have 30 applications in the App Catalog we have a very large selection of web apps created for smartphones out there. It comes as no surprise that all of the web apps created for the iPhone work very well with the Palm Pre. Wikimedia Foundation has finally put their hand in with the official launch of the mobile optimized Wikipedia.

Currently this version has known support for out Palm Pre, Kindle, Apple iPhone and all Android-powered handsets on the market. Language support is limited to English and German for now but expect more to come in the near future.
The adaption makes the home screen search in WebOS even more user-friendly. Of course there are some who prefer the regular version, for you they have included links at the bottom of the page to view normally and even disable the mobile page conversion altogether. We are having a lot more luck with page navigation in the mobile version. We want to know which you prefer.

Actually, I’ve been using that mobile version for weeks now, perhaps since I even first had the device, if I recall correctly. When I searched Wikipedia from Universal Search, I noticed the different format, many weeks ago.
