Default Will the Pre work on the SERO plan?

I am a holdover from the SERO 500 anytime/all data plan for $30/mo, and would like to know if Sprint is going to hassle me when I call to activate my Pre.

I just called customer service (*2) and was told it would not be a problem. Our plan includes 3G "casual" anyways so its not an issue to get a Pre activated on the plan.

I asked, while I have you on the phone, do you have any idea when it is out.

"No"

I think it is when Sprint decided to cap data from unlimited to 5G?

Gizmodo - Oh No: Sprint Capping "Unlimited" 3G Data Service at 5GB - 3G

Unsure ... all I know is that line is new on my Sprint.com plan page ... 3G or EvDO casual.

Casual refers to pay-per-use v. a predefined allotment built into a plan.

Dug around some more on this ... and found:
EVDO Casual: $0.0 What does it mean? [Archive] - SprintUsers.com

Since SERO isn't really around anymore, it seems us SERO folks have unlimited data with EvDO Casual ... the end result is the same, you can browse, email, chat online and still not get charged.

Whatever it means you've got a plan locked in at $30 amonth, that's gold!

This is all too reminiscent of the Instinct launch ... Sprint reps saying SERO plans could upgrade, then the phone comes out and won't work with SERO.

Already insiders (Some Palm Pre Questions Inside Sprint Now) saying SERO won't work.

Out of spite, I will cancel and go with TMobile if indeed I cannot activate a Pre on my SERO plan. Its a tremendous value and all that, but being forced to use an archaic phone is the last straw for me.

Time to read up more on looming android releases.

Exactly, so you pay (quite a bit) per kb of data use. Hit a couple of web pages a day and you will be over what the "everything data" plan costs. Happened to me once, now I have the everything data plan.

SERO has unlimited data so I would disagree that CASUAL = data charge

I have tethered for 2 years, several 100s MB/mo and have never been charged a cent for data.

I was lusting after the Pre and swore that I would forever swear off Sprint if they Instinct'd the Pre

I did a quick cost analysis ...

assumptions:
A900M has been loyal but has got to go
Pre will retail for $150 after loyalty upgrade/rebate

cost includes phone and plan ... (x%) represents increase from keeping my A900M

2 YR COST OF:
Upgrading to Treo 755p (SERO) = $820 (14%)
Upgrading to a Pre (EPRP) = $1590 (121%)
Upgrading both SERO lines to Pre (EPRP-Family) = $2940 (308%)

We all know even EPRP is cheaper than an iPhone or android on a different carrier so I did not include those as I have no qualms with Sprint service-wise (PDX, OR).

Interesting, they must define "casual" differently for SERO?

On the family plan I used to have, Sprint defined "casual" as pay per kb, and I did pay per kb of data.

I don't think so. My wife has the Sero and it works great for her Centro at $55 max a month for everything. She is currently not interested in the Pre so we sould be good. I have Sprint Everything on my Treo 755p, so it won't matter for me and my contract end date is May 25, 2009 so I am looking good so far.
